Intensive: If You’re Not at the Table, You’re on the Menu - Engaging Nonprofit Leaders in Public Policy
Date & Time

It’s a familiar story: your dynamic, forward-thinking nonprofit organization is at the top of its game when it comes to service delivery. You’re expanding year after year, and your small but dedicated staff has fully bought into the organization’s mission. You fill a critical need in your community, and funders are taking notice.

But there’s one word that can still stop you dead in your tracks: advocacy.

Either because you’re worried about what you can (and can’t) do as a 501(c)3, or you’re worried about capacity, or simply because you don’t know where to start -- you’re not alone. But by avoiding the public policy issues that directly impact the community you serve, you’re also missing out.

This daylong session led by Denny Civic Solutions will answer your questions on why, when, and how to engage in advocacy -- even for those who believe they have no capacity to do so.  The session will feature:

  • A panel discussion with nonprofit leaders from across the state, discussing why and how they began engaging in advocacy, and how it has benefited their organization and community.
  • Small group sessions on developing a policy agenda, recruiting legislative champions, building a coalition, and different roles you can play in the advocacy process.
  • Mock advocacy meetings with actual elected officials and staff.
  • Guidance on developing your own policy priorities, and how to find out who else is advocating for them -- or against.
  • And more!

Join us for this critical session where our goal is not only to make engaging in advocacy more accessible -- but also to make it fun.
